STI Assessment Testing and Observance Month

April 15, 2015

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN LAKE COUNTY TO OFFER SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI) ASSESSMENT TESTING IN OBSERVANCE OF STI AWARENESS MONTH

Lake County - The Florida Department of Health in Lake County will observe Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Awareness Month, by offering STI assessment testing every second and fourth Wednesday of the month starting Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Clermont Health Center located at 875 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont, FL 34711 from 9 am until 3 pm.  Educational materials will be available and the following tests will be offered for a minimal fee:

HIV -Blood/Oral Rapid Test                                                        $10.00
HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea - Urine & Blood Test         $40.00

According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) false assumptions about STIs, how they’re spread, prevented, and treated are everywhere and it can be especially hard for people to get the facts.  Half of the estimated 20 million STIs that occur in the U.S. each year are among young people.  STI Awareness Month 2015 focuses effort on getting the correct information to this population.  The month long observance also provides an opportunity to clear up myths about STI prevention and testing.

Did You Know?
  • Most STI’s, even HIV are treatable and most are curable. If left untreated they can lead to serious health problem including death.
  • Many STI’s don’t have any symptoms therefore the only way of knowing is getting tested.
  • STI tests are not always part of a regular doctor visit, therefore you won’t get one unless you request it.
Remember, you can better protect your health and your partners by getting tested.  To schedule an appointment or for more information please contact the departments’ Clermont Health Center at (352) 989-9001 or visit our website at http://lake.floridahealth.gov/
