Lake County The Florida Department of Health in Lake County (DOH-Lake) joins the American Public Health Association (APHA) in the observance of National Public Health Week, April 4th – 10th, 2016.  The theme is “Healthiest Nation 2030”.This celebration brings national awareness about public health issues.

In order to commemorate this week, DOH-Lake will be running a bilingual Mosquito Protection Radio PSA’s Campaign at local radio stations and we are also inviting the public to visit our Service Exhibit Event which will take place at our Umatilla Health Center on Thursday, April 7th from 1pm-3pm.

“We have a lot to celebrate here in Lake County!  With our health ranking showing a significant improvement and our recognition as an accredited health department, Public Health Week is a great time to reflect on the amazing work being accomplished by the Florida Department of Health in Lake County, Lake County Government and all of our partners.” said Aaron Kissler, Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Lake County.

Last month; the Florida Department of Health became the first integrated department of health in the nation to achieve national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board. Public health departments play a critical role in protecting and improving the health of people and communities. The seal of accreditation signifies that the Florida Department of Health has been rigorously examined and meets or exceeds national standards that promote continuous quality improvement for public health.

APHA “brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation”.  To learn more visit www.apha.org.
