Eustis, FL - The Florida Department of Health in Lake County will observe National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) on Tuesday October 15, 2019. We will be offering free HIV Testing at The Florida Department of Health Umatilla located at 249 E. Collins Street from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. No appointment necessary.
This year marks the Sixteenth year of what has become the annual observance of NLAAD. This year’s theme, “Living with HIV or not...we’re fighting this together” speaks to everyone who is willing to invest their energy in eliminating new HIV infections and helping persons living with HIV to achieve viral suppression. Among adults’ risk for Hispanics/Latinos men were 1 in 48 and for Latino/Hispanic women is 1 in 227. 1 in every 5 new HIV infections is Latino/Hispanic.
In addition to the free rapid 15-minute testing offered at the event, the Florida Department of Health in Lake County can perform a mouth swab to test for HIV, which will be sent to the State laboratory. Results are available in approximately 3 weeks.
