Public Health Preparedness
The Florida Department of Health in Lake (DOH-Lake) is responsible for the preparedness and response to any incidents or events (natural or man-made) that threaten the health of the people in Lake County. As such, we are the lead agency for Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF8 – Health & Medical) and have a representative present at the Lake County Emergency Operations Center for the duration of an incident. DOH-Lake is engaged in a continuous cycle of planning, training, and exercises with community partners, neighboring counties, and other agencies to provide an effective response to various scenarios such as:
- Mass phrophylaxis
- Special needs shelters
- Mass casualties
- Epidemiological surveillance and investigation
- Epidemiological isolation and quarantine
The Florida Department of Health ensures essential public health services continue throughout disaster events through coordination with Lake County emergency service agencies, federal, state, local agencies, local hospitals, and volunteer organizations.
