Closed Point of Dispensing (POD) Program

To better serve and protect our community, The Florida Department of Health in Lake County is partnering with community-based organizations, agencies, and businesses to develop a network of Closed “Points of Dispensing” or “PODS”. These PODs will be activated in the case of an emergency related to a biological attack or disease outbreak requiring mass dispensing of medical countermeasures.

What is a POD?

A Point of Dispensing, or POD, is a way to distribute medication to an affected population quickly and efficiently. They are activated when a biological attack or disease outbreak has occurred and medications or vaccinations need to be distributed quickly in order to preserve the life, safety, and/or health of the community. Most PODs are open to the public, and locations, operating times, and medication pickup procedures will be announced at the time of activation.

Closed PODs are operated by and serve a particular agency, business, community organization, club, or association. They are not open to the public like other PODs. The Department requires an agreement with an organization ahead of time to provide medical countermeasures to a Closed POD.
